Description:
Pipette puller for glass capillaries with 1 - 2 mm outer diameter (special holders for larger diameters are available on request). The instrument can be adjusted to produce pipette tips of varying shape and length. Fitted with clear acrylic dust cover for protection against drafts.
Both pullers come with built-in electronic control unit. The short, sturdy pipettes manufactured with the 2-dimensional puller are ideal for renal micropuncture applications. For finer tips, the horizontal version of the puller (04-02) is recommended.
Instrument set-up:
Place puller on a flat surface in location that is not exposed to drafts. Voltage can be set to 220V and 110V (50/60 Hz) using a selector switch in the back of the unit. Instruments sold in the US are preset to 110V.
Operating instructions: for horizontal puller (04-02)
- Push capillary holders together and lock them in place by throwing the two levers into the up position
- Insert capillary (do not touch or bend the heating coil)
- Adjust pulling power by increasing or decreasing tension of the left spring
- Unlock lever for the left holder (coil will not be heated unless the lever is in the unlocked position
- Switch on control unit and select heating coil current
- Close dust cover
- Push start button on control unit
- Remove capillary
Very short tips can be produced when, in addition, the right slide is used:
- Push capillary holders together and lock them in place by throwing the two levers into the locked position
- Insert capillary
- Adjust tension of the right spring; reduce tension of left spring to minimum
- Unlock levers for left and right holder
- Close dust cover
- Push start button on control unit
- Remove capillary
During the pull, first the right holder moves to the right and then the left holder to the left, which terminates the heating current. The instrument can also be set up for pulling in two steps. The length of the pre-pull can be adjusted by limiting the maximum travel of the right slide with the large hollow set screw that is built into the right stopping block. The strength of the pre-pull and main pull can be varied by adjusting the tensions of the right and left springs, respectively.
Cleaning:
The surfaces of the tracks must be kept absolutely free from dust or glass particles (blow off with compressed air or duster can). The slides can be cleaned with petroleum ether or with white gasoline. Do not lubricate. Other plastic parts may be cleansed with warm soap solution (hand dish-washing detergent).
