Heated, temperature controlled operating table for small animals. Includes electronic control unit, electrical heating element, rectal temperature probe, 1 holding bar, 1 swivel bar clamp, and 1 fixed bar clamp.
Operating table: 290x200x65 mm, PVC, gray, with cork pad, surrounding channel for fluid drainage, and 2 height-adjustable feet; Electrical heating pad, 150x55 mm, black anodized aluminum; Pivoting mounting bracket, height adjustable, with 6 mm diameter rod for mounting of clamps; 4 mounting rails; 1 cross bar clamp; 1 swivel bar clamp. The table is also available with a smaller heating pad (75x35 mm) for mice (03-02) and as unheated table, without heating pad (03-06). Also, a positioning stage is available (03-05) that allows 20 mm translational and 360 degree rotational movements. Electronic control unit: blue, with white front and back panels; Case electrically grounded; Switchable display of table/probe/reference temperature; Control mode table or probe; Regulating temperature range 36-42 degree C; Max. power output 15 W at 18V; Linear power level indicator; Rectal temperature probe (NTC thermistor) with flexible tip (2.1 mm OD). The back panel features a universal power connector (IEC), voltage selector 115V/220V (60/50 Hz), fuse holder (0.63 A, slow acting), and jacks for temperature recording (10 mV/degree C).
Before switching on, make sure that the voltage selector on the rear panel is set to line voltage and that table and temperature probe are connected. The control switch (next to the power switch) allows you to chose between two different modes of operation: control of the temperature of the animal via the external rectal temperature probe or control of the temperature of the heating pad via a thermistor element in the table. The mode is indicated by green LED's to the left of the linear power indicator. The LCD panel displays the temperature of the table, rectal probe, or reference, depending on the position of the temperature selector switch. The reference is set by the 10-turn potentiometer on the right side of the front panel. The linear power level indicator below the LCD panel monitors the power output to the table. In the "table mode," the controller regulates the power to the heating element based on the temperature reading from the table. You can monitor the temperature of the animal by turning the temperature selector to the probe position. Using the table mode, the reference temperature should be adjusted slightly above the desired rectal temperature of the animal. The exact amount is a function of many factors, including room temperature, size of the animal, heat losses, etc., and is best determined by trial and error. In the "probe mode," the power output to the heating element is based on the reading from the rectal temperature probe. However, the power to the heating element is interrupted if the temperature of the heating element exceeds 42 degree C. In the steady-state, the temperature of the animal is held at the selected reference temperature.
The instrument has been fully calibrated at the factory. Calibration and regulating performance has been checked again prior to shipping. The control unit will not require further adjustments, unless the temperature probe is defective or has been replaced by a different probe. You may verify the calibration by immersing the rectal probe about 2 cm deep in 37 degree C warm water and compare the reading of the instrument (selector switch in the probe position) with that of an calibrated temperature gauge. The error (difference between the two readings) should be 0.1 degree C or less. We do not recommend that you change the calibration of the probe yourself. Vestavia Scientific, LLC, will be glad to re-calibrate the instrument for a nominal charge. If you want to try to do it yourself, here is a photo of the circuit board with the positions of the potentiometers.
For cold illumination of the surgical area, a high-powered LED light (03-07) may be added. The lamp is avalaible in a variety of mounting options.
